The Met Office says icy surfaces will result in difficult travel conditions

The Met Office has issued another new weather warning for ice affecting parts of Northern Ireland this coming weekend.

The weather forecaster issued the yellow warning on Friday morning, February 13, and advised we can expect “icy surfaces leading to difficult travel conditions”.

It has been issued for four counties with the warning in place from 8pm tonight, Friday, February 13, until 10am on Saturday, February 14. The warning is in place for counties Antrim, Down, Derry and Tyrone.

A Met Office spokesperson added: “Wintry showers may fall onto sub-zero surfaces during Friday evening and overnight into Saturday morning, leading to a risk of ice where untreated. In addition, a slight covering of snow is possible on high ground above 200 metres.”

What should I expect?

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

The evening will be dry with clear periods but it will soon become cloudy, with scattered showers in the north for a time. Minimum temperature -2°C.

Saturday:

The morning and early afternoon continue cloudy but dry. Snow will push northeast from mid-afternoon before turning to rain later. Maximum temperature 5°C.
